Gas Safe Certificate

Gas Safe Certificate

Your Gas Safe Registered Installer will provide you with a Gas Safety Certificate (Building Regulation Compliance Certificate) on the completion of installation work. Your Gas Safe registered engineer just needs to notify through Gas Safe Register. Once they’ve done this, we will inform your local authority and you’ll receive your Building Regulations Compliance Certificate in the post in 10-15 working days.

The certificate demonstrates that the installation complies with the relevant Building Regulations. The information on the certificate is used to record your installation and, in England & Wales, it is used to notify your Local Authority Building Control Department (LABC) of the work that was undertaken. This self certification takes the place of a Local Authority Building Notice.

Because the Building Regulations Compliance Certificate belongs to the property in which the appliance has been installed, make sure you keep it safe; it’ll come in useful if you sell your home or decide to remortgage. The information can also be required to validate your home insurance and will be required in any home selling process.  Failure to notify the Local Authority can be an offence resulting in enforcement action.

The Building Regulations are designed to make sure buildings are safe to use and inhabit. As part of this aim, in England and Wales local authorities must always be informed when a heat producing appliance is installed in a property, so a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate can be issued. If you’re a homeowner, it’s up to you to ensure the Building Regulations are adhered to by making sure your engineer notifies the installation.
